Honey Island Swamp Monster

Image
Honey Island swamp in St. Tammany parish, Louisiana is perhaps not the most famous cryptid but is certainly an interesting one. Known as La Bête Noire (the Black Beast) in Cajun french is a folkloric bigfoot type creature that roams the the swams and surrounding area of Honey Island.  The name of the island comes from the large number of Honey bees that used to inhabit the island and it's stunning 70,000 acres are home to many species of animals including snakes, alligators, birds and insects. However one creature that supposedly haunts the vast bayou is scarier thank any snake or alligator. Regular tales date back to the 1960s but old folklore from the natives date back far further into history.  Local legends suggest it could be some kind of humanoid creature raised by alligators or spme kind oh hybrid alligator primate animal. Of course no evidence existed for such a creature. That is until 1963 that is. A one Harlan Ford a retired air traffic controller was scouting out sp...

The Glimmer Man

Image
What would you do if you saw something that wasn't there. Something moving through the forest that you can't quite focus on something you know is there but all you see is a faint outline and sometimes a pair of glowing yellow eyes. It sounds like the script for a 1980s jungle based action/sci-fi movie but talk to those who have seen these predator type entities as they are sometimes referred to and they will tell you that what they saw was all too real and all too terrifying.  These strange entities have been reported all over the world but there seems to been a large amount of reports throughout the U.S. Most are in rural areas or areas where there are large forests and wildernesses. It is remarkable how similar the reports are to each other and how closely they resemble that ailen hunter of the silver screen. Some witnesses have reported seeing it multiple times sometimes traversing through their dwellings on the hunt for something also out of the sight of the witness. Alt...

Madam Pigott

Image
Shropshire and Newport in particular are no strangers to tales of the weird and paranormal. One of those stories that are told is that of Madam Piggott the white lady of Newport.  The story of poor lady Pigott is told thus. The young Lady met and married squire Pigott of Chetwynd Park. However from the start things were not happy for the newlywed Lady Pigott her husband only wanted a son from her so whenever he could he would dissappear to London for days or weeks at a time to find fun elsewhere with others. Over time Lady Pigott became angry, bitter and resentful of her husband and by the time she became pregnant she was very ill and weak. She had a very difficult pregnancy during which she heard a matter of fact conversation between the physician and the husband where the husband was told that he would only be able to save one of them not both. Without a second thought the husband chose his unborn child. Hearing the callousness with which her husband made this decision wit...

Old Stinker

Image
Stories of man like wolves are nothing new in European folklore but this particular tale spans three centuries and takes part in the UK Yorkshire to be exact and what's more may still be going on today. The legend may well have started as far back as the 1100s and culminated sone time in the 1800s when a stagecoach was viciously attacked where upon the creature was shot at and disappeared in to the night. For sone time all was quiet and stories of this creature died out and the creature itself nearly forgotten.  Then only 6 years ago the story started to resurface. The sightings although reported over multiple areas centered around the city of Hull. This is why the creature is sometimes called the Hull Werewolf. However it is far more well known by it's other name that of 'Old Stinker'. It is said to stand approximately 8 feet tall and have glowing red eyes and a foul breath giving rise to its less than affectionate name. Said by locals to inhabit areas of the UK that...

Phantom Phone Calls

Image
What would you do if you received a phone call from someone that couldn't possibly have made it? What would you do if they sounded like them, knew things about you and talked to you like they always used to? The only problem being they are dead. Would you hang up? Talk to them one last time? Or just listen? Some people have had to answer these questions. Join us as we look at the strange and unusual phenomena of ghostly phone calls. The phenomena itself has a fairly straightforward pattern usually a person will receive a phone call from a loved one (family member, husband, wife, significant other or close friend) the conversation may appear quite ordinary but after the person hangs up they find out that the person they were talking to had died. Other versions of this phenomena have the person receiving the call well aware that the person who is on the other line died weeks, months or years earlier. They are often a loving message or a final farewell or a message of support during...

The Pentagon's UFO Program

Image
UFOs, Aliens do they exist? If they do are they visiting us? If they are what do they want? These are some of the questions that both armchair investigators and the top levels of the government and military have been racking their brains to answer for decades.  On the 25th June 2021 the pentagon released a preliminary analysis on 144 Unidentified Aireal Phenomena (UAP). Of these 144 cases studied it was quite shocking that 143 still remain unexplained and the 1 that was closed was said to be a deflating balloon. The report can be found here . This beggs the question what was going on with these other sightings and who was investigating them. Something that the pentagon was not very forthcoming with. However,  nearly a year after the initial release a man named Travis Taylor who some of you may have heard of came forward as the chief scientist responsible for the report on behalf of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Although it is true that Mr T...

The Enfield Monster

Image
A cryptid sight that has gone down as one of the most discussed and argued over encounter of the last 50 years. Read on to find out more. Enfield, Illinois the 25th of April 1973, a seemingly ordinary day would end up as one of the strangest and bizarre cryptid sightings of recent decades. It all started about 10pm in the evening when Henry McDaniel was disturbed from his sofa after a hard day at work by a scratching sound coming from his front door. Thinking it might be a bear Henry grabbed his gun and a torch and went out to confront the creature. It was a windy night and between two shrubs Henry saw something that confused and shocked him. What he saw he later described as having three legs, two short arms a short body and large pink eyes, grey coloured skin and stood appropriately 4 - 5 feet tall. Henry wasted no time in taking aim and firing 4 shots at it one shot hitting the creature. Upon being shot the creature let out a loud hiss and disappeared over a railway embankment...

The Mysterious Street Light Interference Phenomena

Image
Can you turn street lights off by your mere presence? No? Well neither can I but some people claim they can, the phenomena is called 'Street Light Interference' or SLI and the people who experience this phenomena are affectionately called SLIders. So read on and find out what this phenomena is all about.  Street Light Interference (also know as Street Lamp Interference and High Voltage Syndrome) is an unexplained phenomena where certain individuals claim that they can effect Street lighting in their local area above what would be expected by chance. This often is represented by flickering lights as they travel under them, sometimes they turn off completely and occasionally entire stretches of lighting can turn off. This works when on foot or in vehicles. Typically the lights turn on again when the individual leaves the area making it all the more mysterious.  The term was first coined by Hilary Evans while investigating the phenomena for the Association for the Scientif...

Tales of the Black Smoke Rings

Image
Black smoke rings floating in the sky have been seen for many years by many people all over the world, often discounted as coming from a bonfire or a battle re-enactment but can all these sightings really be explained so dismissively? Read on to find out. They have been reported numerous times from the US to Russia, while some believe them to be easily explained as smoke rings caused by fires of burning rubber,  or other noxious but very much terrestrial substances, that through planning of coincidence cause a floating smoke ring. Some easily dismiss them as being caused by cannon fire from a local reenactment. There are some sceptics who have put down the sightings to various weather phenomena that my not be fully understood but enough is known for them to confidentially dismiss every sighting. Others believe a far more nefarious plot involving that modern and seemingly never dying conspiracy theory of chemtrails and government weather control experiments (or mind control a...

Tales of the Dog Headed Man

Image
The legend of Cynocephaly or the Dog headed man is maybe less common than that of his more famous cousin the werewolf. However the stories of these people go back thousands of years and stretch entire continents. Described by both Christopher Columbus and Marco Polo and written about by Greek scholars are they truly just myth and legend or the musings of a traveller seeing a Baboon for the first time while visiting Africa? Or is there something more to this legend? Although sometimes there are seen as interchangeable 'monsters' of legend the Cynocephaly are quite distinct from those suffering from werewolfism or Lycanthropy. Where are werewolves are people that change in to a wolf form be it through a curse, magic or misfortune the dog headed man was simply a man in all respects apart from the face he had a dog head. They did not change using magic or herbs or other such rituals but were a distinct species that live in tribes as families often separate but sometimes along sid...

The Skirrid Inn

Image
Nestled into the Brecon Beacons lies The Skirrid Inn a pub with a history dating back over 900 years and if the walls could talk they would be full of tales of death, murder and blood. The pub it's self is a beautiful look structure in a quiet area a few miles outside of Abergavenny. It's thick walls and roaring fireplaces and the hum of locals and holiday makers talking and laughing bely its horrific history. As would be expected from a building that has seen so much history and bloodshed rumours of hauntings and poltergeist activity abound. To placate some of these sprits and to ensure the patrons at the Skirrid Inn have a pleasant stay the landlord is said to put out the 'Devils Cup' or 'pwca cup' each night. The cup is full of ale and placed out each night to appease the spirits or maybe the Devil himself as an offering of good will and the next day some of the ale has gone and the spirits leave the pub alone for another night. This ritual has been maintaine...
