The A23 the most haunted road in Britain?

The A23 in Sussex is a very old road even before it was designated as such it has long been a connection road from the towns and villages on the south coast to the main hub of industry in London.

This made it a favorite spot for highwaymen of the 17th Century to hide in wait for some unsuspecting traveller to come across their path and be lightened of their load if not their life. 

Not surprisingly for such an ancient travel way there are many legends and stories told about the ghosts that haunt this stretch of road.

These include black shadows darting across the road in front of unsuspecting drivers, pale figures standing at the side of the road, a ghost of a man in cricket whites and a girl in a coat with out hands or feet and even a spectral dog making a run from one side to the other.

Reports of ghostly encounters have been noted from Brighton to Croydon and it seems that there isn't an area of the road that hasn't seen its share of death at one time or another. 


In one encounter the witness reported that one of the specters actually spoke to him. The witness was driving home down an unlit country road at night (aren't they always?) when up ahead they saw a light, this light did not look like a head light or tail light but kept the same distance apart no mater if they sped up or slowed down. Then the light just disappeared and feeling a little light headed and out-of-sorts the driver pulled over and wound down the window of his care to get some fresh air. Then the witness noticed out of his window a hideously disfigured man who asked the witness if they existed and if so why? Then faded in to the night. The witness was obviously shocked and unable to comprehend what happened and probably stuck to main roads for the rest of the journey.

So if you find yourself travelling to or from Brighton especially in the evening and especially near Pyecombe keep an eye out for the specters so you don't get caught off guard. or you might get more than you bargained for.

Farmer believes puma responsible for death of sheep

A North Wales farmer has told the local press that he has lost 10 sheep since July from what he believes is a puma stalking his farm animals. He states that they are killed by a single distinctive bite to the neck and if the carcass is left more is taken away (presumably eaten by the same animal) over the next few days. The attacks were in the Beddgelert area of North Wales near Snowdonia. The exact location has been withheld due to fears hunters may try to go after the animal. The Shag Harbour Incident

  On October 4th 1967 a remarkable event took place in which the tiny an relatively unknow fishing village of Shag Harbour and its residents would be put on the world map once and for all. The incident drew enough attention to be investigated by both the civilian RCMP and Coast guard and military Canadian navy and air force. The story is as follows. Multiple residents of the tiny fishing community of Shag Harbour began to notice strange orange lights in the sky in the evening of the 4th (approx. 11.20pm Atlantic Daylight Time) this was reported by multiple witnesses who generally believed there were four noticeable lights. The lights were flashing in sequence and then without warning dived at a steep angle towards the waters surface. The Devil's Footprints

  On a cold Snowy February 1855 a strange event occurred through both East and South Devon that is still often mentioned to this day, that event would become known as the Devil's footprints. After a night of heavy snowfall the areas around Exe Estuary woke to a strange sight, a series of hoof like foot prints could be seen they stretched for between some 40-100 miles crossing gardens and roof tops. The explanation for this if lore is to believed is that the residents of East and South Devon were visited by the devil that wintery night as he wandered through the county plotting some nefarious deeds no doubt and all that was left as the witness were his cloven hoof marks.   The hoof prints were traced over haystacks, through walls and even roofs this was certainly not the works of the local wildlife unless deer and horses can climb and pass through solid objects.
